Cypress Mountain and Hollyburn Ridge

Robson Square Vancouver

Vancouver is lucky to have 3 local ski areas, each within a short drive from the city:  Grouse Mountain; Cypress Mountain; Mount Seymour.  One of our tours features a trip to Grouse Mountain, the most famous of the three.  But only one of these three ski areas hosted some events during the 2010 Olympic Winter Games and that is Cypress Mountain.  This tour features an approximately 30-min drive from downtown Vancouver to the Cypress Ski Area.  It includes a stop at the Hollyburn Nordic Area with a walk through the forest to Hollyburn Lodge and First Lake before continuing to Cypress Bowl downhill ski area.  On the way back down the mountain, we stop at the Cypress Park Viewpoint to soak up the gorgeous view of the city, and beyond to the mountains of Vancouver Island.

Proposed Itinerary

NOTE: This tour takes place in the summer months only, when there is no snow in the area.
Meet up at prearranged location: downtown hotel; airport hotel; cruise ship terminal.
Drive the magnificent Lions Gate Bridge (pictured above) to West Vancouver and take the Trans Canada Highway to the Cypress ski area.
Stop at Hollyburn Nordic Area and hike through the forest to Hollyburn Lodge originally built in 1926 by a group of mountain enthusiasts from Sweden. The lodge, at First Lake, is currently under renovation.  Walk around the lake and enjoy the forest vistas.
Continue to Cypress Bowl, at the base of the downhill ski area. Most facilities, including chairlifts, are closed in the summer months but there is ample opportunity to walk around the area and enjoy the views.
As we make our way back down the mountainside, we make a stop at Cypress Viewpoint which is a great place for locals and tourists to capture Vancouver and the Lower Mainland on a fine day.  The viewpoint faces south over the city and water. The view is spectacular! Take your camera and lenses.
